Brett Tremelling joined the United States Coast Guard as a reservist in 1997 while still a highly decorated police officer with the Chatham County Police Department in Savannah, Georgia. In the immediate wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Coast Guard activated Brett Tremelling to full duty status. Since that time, he has served a range of homeland security functions.

In 2004, the Coast Guard deployed Mr. Tremelling as part of Port Security Unit (PSU) 307 supporting Iraqi Freedom combat operations in Kuwait and Iraq. While serving overseas, he received multiple military awards including an Overseas Service Ribbon and a Navy Letter of Commendation Ribbon. PSU 307 also received official Coast Guard commendation for focusing resources to attain a high Status of Readiness and Resources Training in an extremely short period of time.

Brett Tremelling currently serves as a chief petty officer at Joint Base Cape Cod in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. Stationed at the Northeast Regional Fisheries Training Center, he provides law enforcement instruction.
